| So I've been posting less and less, mostly because life is busy and I have facebook, which will one day take over the world. (I mean think about it, with all those applications, and the possibility of many many more, one day you will not need to go anywhere else! And think about this, email isn't necessary anymore, as long as they have facebook, post it on their wall.. or if it's important or private, send them a message!) Anyways, I'm trying to practice slowing and I think so far... it's working a little bit. We had a chapel speaker who said that you don't develope character traits of God by trying. You develope them by training, starting with the small stuff and working to the big stuff, like a marathon. One thing he said he was doing to train himself to be a more loving person was to practice slowing. Not that being a loving person is a strength or great weakness of mine, I decided that the practice of slowing could be beneficial for more than just learning to love more (taking time to love people!) but it could also lower stress levels, emphasize the important things, you know, all the things everyone needs to work on. He said that the first 15 minutes of your day can affect your outlook on the rest of the day. Starting them well means starting your day well. So I took a shower last night so that I would have more time this morning not to rush to chapel and I got up a little later (and more rested) and I felt very calm. I didn't allow myself to be rushed, even when I did leave a little later than I wanted to. I didn't panic when I looked at the clock and I had spent more time getting ready than I wanted to. I want to learn how to rest in God, how to be at peace in all situations, how to be calm. "I have calmed and quited my soul, like a weaned child. Like a weaned child resting against his mother is my soul within me." Psalm 131:2 | | |
| This weekend is/was a three day weekend, which means I had a chance to catch up on housework... but it didn't last long. Tomorrow is the last day, and I have a mess in my living room, dishes in the sink and homework to read. Oh well, it'll all be ok and we'll get it all caught up... eventually. I have a few bad habits I'm going to need to break... like leaving dishes in the sink and throwing dirty clothes on the bedroom floor. Alright, that's it for today. Oh, and Wednesday is my birthday!! | | |
| Classes started today. I might actually enjoy getting up at 7. I have an 8am class, which is just about as early as they get, but it was kinda nice to be able to come back today and have a quite time before Ansen got up, and then to see him before I went back to my second and final class of the day at 10. MWF will be kinda nice because I have 2 classes and then I have a nice big lunch break before I have to work at 2. TR on the other hand... maybe not so much. I just keep asking God to open my mind and allow me to actually enjoy learning about the Pentateuch (which is the first 5 books of the bible for those of you who don't know), early church history and Augustine, the great philosopher (not my favorite subject). Maybe... just maybe, I'll enjoy them a little more than I am anticipating. However, they are all three right in a row, in the same class room, two of which are with the same professor. Bummer. | | |
| So I'm enjoying married life. Especially the days when I don't work because then I can clean house and work on the decorating part of everything. Other than pictures, I think everything is looking good. Cooking has been fun... but now I'm running out of good ideas. But you know, I have like a billion cook books... maybe I should start looking throught them. Dishes on the other hand are quite annoying. After dinner I just want to sit down and relax... not do the dishes. Ansen does help though, so that helps. Last night we went and visited some friends that got lucky enough to live in the new condos JBU is renting down town. They are sooo nice. Someone took this old building downtown and completely renovated it, brand new cabnets in the kitchen, granet countertops, wooden floors, very contemporary paint job, the master bedroom has a jaccuzi (jealous!!), upstairs has a balcony, 2 bedrooms, a huge "living room" besides the one downstairs, a back door that leads to their parking lot (oh and it's a beautiful door). All of the trim & doors are white, which make it look very crisp and clean. The front doors are beautiful, deep, rich, mahogany wood. Ok, so maybe I'm a little jealous that they're only paying room and board for the $250,000 condo. | | |
| So, thank you cards are written... now I need return address labels and stamps and they're golden. Our house is starting to look like a home. Our goal is for it to look like we want it by orientation, except for a few minor things that we will wait until after the reception in September to purchase, if we don't get them. So far... we haven't had much time to do so because we're both working pretty much all day. However, today, I don't work and plan to work on my house!! Aside from that, I can't wait until all of our friends come back to JBU! I miss them a bunch and I have no idea what I'll do when we all graduate and move away! I guess we'll figure that out when it comes. And now to start my day...!! | | |
